Alarming times

Looking out of the window today we'd be forgiven for thinking that summer's been and gone before it's really started.  My daughter has just broken up from her school and we had a lovely emotional morning watching them have their final assembly.  They chose See You Again by Wiz Kalifa to sing their goodbyes to the school and there weren't many dry eyes in the audience or on the stage.

I am looking forward to some lazy days to come, bad weather or not.  I like days out in the UK rather than travelling all over and filling up my passport at the moment.

My cousin was over visiting me the other day when he pointed out that he recognised the logo'd van parked near my house as belonging to someone he knew.  We were talking about it being a small world, as I said that I was wondering why it was parked near my place instead of outside the place of person who was driving it.   Thought no more about it until after my cousin had left and in the dead of night when the alarm on the van started going off in 30 second bursts.  It was beginning to keep me awake until I realised that I had the upper hand.  Texted my cousin to ask him to text his contact and tell him to do something about the alarm.  Within ten minutes there was blissful silence.   It's who you know, isn't it?  I bet the guy had a massive shock when someone from a dozen miles away texted him saying his alarm was causing a nuisance.

I had a job the next day which had a 6am start.  I was to wear a beekeeper's outfit and walk over the Millennium Bridge with some others so we could persuade everyone about the benefits of honey.  We have to protect the bees.  I've seen Bee Movie...

Since I knew it was an early start I booked a TV interview in Brixton the same day, and over-reached myself by staying I would get up at 4.  In order to save time I booked a cab at 5am.  In my tiredness the night before I set the alarm on my phone for the WRONG DAY.  The cab arrived while I was still asleep!  They rang me to say they were outside and I had to pay waiting time so that I could get in the shower, grab my make up and get dressed and go!  Make up on the way there. So spaced out on the journey ...  The shoot was over really quickly so I was able to get to South London with way too much time to spare...  Had to hang around until the next job started.  So much of this job is 'hurry up and wait'.   Luckily it was just a beekeeper job and not something where I needed to be super-groomed.  (I appear to have a green afro here.)

I did another job for Hyper Japan where I was handing out delicious pea-based baked crisps, I tried them, they're going to be massive when they do hit the shops.  Healthy yet crunchy, I'm sold already.

And a green screen job at Shepperton Studios where one minute I was elated and the next miserable.  Not quite sure what is going to be happening in the background, mind you.  It was something set in winter, so on the hottest day of the year we were wearing winter coats.  There was a woman of advanced years (I'd guess around 70) doing it with us and she seemed to be very dehydrated.   She kept slumping down between shots.  At one point she collapsed and needed to be revived by a nurse.  She seemed a bit embarrassed after and said she was 'just taking a little nap'.

I have postponed my trip to the coast due to the weather today.  My new elaborate swimming costume just won't go with the downpour.   It's either one extreme or the other.   Let's wish for a bit more of summer... I won't hold my breath though.
