Anything but a day at the beach

School summer holidays disappear in a flash.   My daughter is changing schools next term so there's uniform to be bought this time as well.  She managed to grow an inch in height while sunning herself in Turkey.  Every little bit counts.  She looks gorgeous in the new uniform, which is really flattering so that's half the battle.

I so wanted to fit trips to the UK coast into this break but to be honest, when I wasn't working the weather was so dismal there was just no point.  Nothing worse than grey skies and sea with a cold breeze to drop your spirits.  We did manage to get out to the parks, to feed the ducks.  The geese are horribly bold, pecking at our fingers and arms and rushing towards us mouths agape.  It's weird seeing their tongues up close.  We are lucky to have so much green space, near us, and we sat near the waterfall in the park watching the bird life.  At one point a huge crow tried to swoop down and take a baby coot from its parent, but was seen off.  Plucky older coot gave a good show at bursting out of the pond towards the bigger bird and looking fierce.   A life lesson there in that moment.

The work has been sporadic, with some agents seemingly on holiday or otherwise occupied.   I took the opportunity to do the usual upkeep.  Hair treatment and colour, replenishing make up, although it's annoying how often my shade is sold out.  I'm fairly sure my skintone is uncommon, yet local shops never have any in stock.  I'll mix two others for what I want.  Same with lipstick, the best looks are always done with a brush and two or three different shades.   I took a selfie after a day's work and the journey home and the make-up is still there, contouring and doing its job.

While my daughter was enjoying her trip and snapping dozens of photos all the outstanding decorating and refurb gone done, finally. Kitchen fitters with the new worktop, one of them displaying lurid purple underpants every time he bent down.  Hall and bannisters repainted, walls and running repairs.  I'm sure she never sees what goes into the upkeep of a home.  She just assumes it happens by magic while she's out.

Trip to Chester with daughter, driven there and back which is so much nicer than taking the train.   We met five model bookers and the director of the agency who made a fuss of us, make up, refreshments, and photoshoot (we got a better time of it in Chester than using the London office).   Really pleasant and can't wait to see how they come out, to be honest I didn't check the screen as we were keen to get back for the drive home.   A few days later I noted a car had turned over on the same stretch of road due to high winds.  Glad we went when we did.

I was team leader again on the latest promo, which means a lot of communication with the rest of the team, everyone has their own ideas about how to structure their days, even if they don't correspond to the brief.  It's more tiring than just doing the job myself.

I attended one casting, which did make me wonder for a moment if Ricky Gervais had commissioned a new series of his 'Extras' sitcom, loaded up with annoying and picky people wanting the earth for their two seconds of screen time.

I also did a night shoot which was a short film and stills for an exec lounge of an airport, to be used in the UK and US.   Of course, they threw away our refreshments and confiscated our perfumes due to the very rigid airport security nowadays.  Waiting to be escorted outside for a breath of fresh air is troublesome for someone who gets as antsy as I do, sitting around.   Home by 6:30 am and time to catch up on some sleep - broken only by the neighbour's cat (complaining loudly as they've gone on a day trip and left him outside for the day).  Amazing how the sound of a cat cry echoes and penetrates even the deepest of sleep.

Made chocolate brownies, and started going through my cake baking books, no doubt BBC's Bake Off has started me thinking about all this again.

Got an interview coming up and just completed a voice over audition.  I have to keep working until the school term starts.

I planned to go to the beach and bought picnic equipment, as well as planning swimming and lots of other fun activities.  It can all get packed away unless we get a late spell of dry weather.

I managed a quick smile behind the scenes to show you I love what I do.
