I'm writing this while waiting for call times for a job tomorrow. So, this of course means I have excess energy and nowhere to put it. Getting in the bath, looking at all my seasonal purchases which have been arriving in a steady stream, and planning my favourite time of year, my birthday/Christmas. Of course, I'm almost finished in my planning and gift buying, as I am every year. The celebrations start very early with me.
I went for it again for Halloween, inspired by Nadiya on GBBO I decided to put my all into a large chocolate sponge cake for the occasion. Nine eggs in the cake and some double cream ganache inside, black icing and some gravestones and bones in fondant icing. My daughter made a spider's web in icing (no mean feat) and decorated it with spooky marshmallows. That cake was delicious. The photo doesn't do it justice. Everyone had a piece. Here's some jelly 'brain' as well - both photos taken on the phone but you get the idea.

Funny time of year for work.
I've been working with children quite a bit. I've also broken the golden rule of working with animals as I have done some work for a film which features a very talented creature. Of course, our work always runs on when you have to wait for the perfect take which has to favour the best take with the animal. No matter if the main actors are flagging, the magical shot will be the one where the animal looks like it's thinking before it does something. Lots of fun and the animal's welfare is always at the front of everyone's mind. He fell asleep towards the end and that was the end of that for the day - back again another day. Looking forward to seeing the final edit, probably at the cinema. We never get to see them beforehand.
I've done some voice work in a soundproof studio which involved saying 100 words (three times) into a mic, to help with voice recognition for an electrical device. I'm not quite Siri or Cortana, I think they wanted different accents so that the device would be able to respond. I hope they had a Scot there, as I know some gadgets simply give up when they hear anyone over the border.
Slightly surreal getting calls from FB friends and acquaintances saying they'd seen me on a consumer-type programme talking about online safety with regard to identity theft. I liked how the programme came out really, even though the edit was pretty severe. I always think my voice sounds like it belongs to someone else when I hear it coming from my own face. Usually I think it's my mum talking, doing an overdub. The programme gave a lesson in online safety from the show's host, although I am pretty good at not giving away things like the names of the clients I work for or whereabouts in London I am on any given day. Not so sure about my friends and relatives.
I've walked and walked for miles in the outdoors over this awful weather. I did some outdoor charity work which then turned into twice as much as I was expecting to do. It's all very well for millionaires and big names to do long hours with cameras rolling as it benefits both the charity and the brand of the celebrity. Then the celebrity gets into their limo while we end up walking for half an hour having lost our umbrella to the station during a tube strike and ending up (eventually) getting into a packed bus. Can you tell I envy the celebrity lifestyle?
Here's a blurry shot of me just before I popped into The Ivy... See, any one of us can have a celebrity-style snack.
As I'm writing this I realise how hair-centric I am as I'm planning on taking some hair supplements and treatments and getting my favourite hairdresser (friend) to give me the full works. I also organise her to do my daughter's and my gran's at the same time. If you have someone in your home it's best to make full use of their talents.
So happy getting my nails done (in a nail bar)...
Until next time.
