I'm using the allotment as an allegory this time because I've neglected the plot since the showery weather started. It turns out, as in life, that if you don't make time for the small things, like weeding, when you DO go back to see what to harvest you find the entire space, including the compost, is covered with grass. Great if you're growing a lawn, but otherwise it's not wanted. There's no way round it, you have to deal with the day to day, if you want the big rewards. I'm rapidly running out of courgette recipes, since it turns out that they'll grow even if you neglect them. Stir fries and veggie shepherds pies are great, but I've drawn the line just before courgette cake. I suppose I could always spiralise them, since it's supposed to give everything a vegetarian spaghetti look and feel.
Some day to day housekeeping is also required with agency work. Every so often some agencies like you to go back periodically and refresh your current needs to keep their books fresh. I made the mistake of calling this 're-registering' when I went back to one and got ushered into the registration room, only to watch the pep talk they usually give to rookies. Then when I emerged they realised that I'd sat through the induction process for a second time. At least I now know that they don't vary their talk.
Got booked for an EE TV Commercial (those featuring Kevin Bacon). Had a laugh chatting and dancing to a Stormzy track in the background. Only those who really know me would recognise my walk up the aisle of the plane. Other work has been fittings related, back to a regular but I can't use any of the photos as they're for Instagram when it's too late for the designs to be poached.
School's out for the summer break and I've heard that my after-school classes are being drastically cut due to budget restrictions. I still have my assisting to do at the upmarket end when term begins again, but the local councils are cutting to the bone. I know the children will miss our lessons and end of term shows for their parents. It's a mistake in my eyes for councils to take away after-school clubs. So many parents rely on these extra-curricular activities to teach a skill and keep a child fit and entertained. It will free up more time for me to book assignments, I suppose.
My daughter has used some of the break to update her agency photos and measurements. Important at this age to keep doing this as a growth spurt can happen at any time. While I'm staying precisely the same size, she has uniform on order for next term where I've estimated how much growth there'll be during the summer.
We also fitted in some beach time. A quiet sandy beach is my preference, and we managed to pick one within easy travelling time, and on a non-rainy day, we are definitely going back as soon as we can.
My girl also had a casting in Clerkenwell and she rocked up as cool as you like with ice white fingernails. The casting director liked them so he made sure to shoot a few 'hands to face' polaroids for emphasis. She says she wants some singing lessons during this break as well and made sure she told him her interests. We won't hear for a while and of course, we never know what the client is really wanting, so it's a waiting game again.
We've done shopping in Camden and old Spitalfields. Shoreditch is within easy reach, we are so lucky to be in a great part of London but we decided this holiday against the Cat Cafe in Bethnal Green. The cats are great but they don't really interact with the public and we have our own at home who provide us with entertainment and affection.
Hoping summer lasts until late September, and then our harvest begins in earnest.
