go with the flow

As the autumn term beckons I have time to look back on what for me has flown by and for my daughter has been one of a dwindling allowance of long school breaks.  No doubt the time will have moved slower for her, which is the way for all of us who have no other responsibilities and milestones.  She has no idea how she'll look back on this break spent entirely in the UK (for once) and remember it for all the little memories we made.  She's now cynical about feeding the ducks or walking in the park on a sunny day as pastimes, so I managed to make sure that she saw an extra dimension of our city. We did a family outing on the Thames, from Westminster to Tower Bridge and back, talking about landmarks and how long they've been there.  Tower Bridge very obligingly raised itself just after we powered underneath so that we got good shots of the mechanism in action.   She also went with my mother up in the cable cars again to see the river from an aerial viewpoint, something I can no longer do since developing a nausea of moving over heights.  We drew the line on booking the canal trip from Camden in case of her suffering tidal overload, so we ate cake while we shopped.  Of course, there was the annual swimming at the big pool in Woolwich, where a friend brings her extended family and we enjoy the wave machine and the ambience.  We're obviously waterbabies.

The Eye has it
This time of year the holidays dictate what work I am offered.  I got offered a crowd scene for an ad featuring footballer 'Dele' Alli, which is really just moving to different parts of the ground and then being merged using CGI for the main BT Sports ad.  A bit of filming at a huge venue near me for a movie.  The greatest part of travelling to local venues is the shortness of the day.  I met up with quite a few of us who always seem to rock up for this sort of work and a mix of people with differing backgrounds, company owners, the odd ex-footballer, people with time on their hands, and then home at a reasonable hour.

Of course, the fittings, which have been a feature of my summer.  There's nothing more fun for me than trying on a selection of beautiful garments (both high end and high street), and getting to give my opinion of fit with the tailors in front of the mirror, then taking them all off again and not having to be responsible for putting them away or laundry!  This work is picking up as I've done some for River Island, and Elegant Designs.  I get a quick preview of what's coming for next season as well as some really good clothing ideas for formal events or which colours are going to feature in collections. - so handy for choosing accessories in advance.

Photos are constantly ongoing for agency work, so there's pictures almost every few days.  Any ideas for backgrounds gratefully received.  I've run out of permutations.

No August is complete without mentioning Carnival, and this was the best one for me to date. Managed to find a sound system with music I really liked and had a chance to dance and pose with an elaborately dressed African tribesman.  Check out my Instagram here.

All I need now for the new season is a contouring kit to complement my summer foundation and other recent make up purchases. My daughter promises me she knows all there is to know about cheekbones.  I'm now able to tell how she's blossomed into her interest in fashion and looks. Her wardrobe now is split into separate sections which have migrated to other areas.  Even her school uniform takes up a dizzying amount of space, with a variety of skirts with pleats, plain skirts, trousers, sweaters and new blazer.  Then there's the school shoes and regulation tights.  I don't remember having this level of choice.   She astounds me every day.  She had a 'lucky' gap in her front two teeth before, but decided to get it made smaller, and it's not long until she gets her final braces removed.  She's had every colour of brace available while she's been having the gap trained.  She's finishing up with metallic blue which she enjoys flashing when she smiles.  I can honestly say she's embraced the brace during the whole time.  She'll have to find something else to colour coordinate when they've gone.

Back to working in a good school for the new term, which fits nicely with finishing up the harvest on the vegetable plot.  Winter is not going to see me spending hours in a cold allotment.  Someone else can harvest the Christmas bounty.   Today's pick...  Just waiting for the pumpkin.
